Insect Identification

Insect Identification banner

If you need to identify different insects, then this is the course for you. Along with your fellow attendees you will be taught identification techniques and work with microscopes to experience identifying and separating the main pest insects.

The UK Government has advised against all unnecessary gatherings to help slow the spread of Covid 19. In response to this, BPCA has taken the decision to postpone all open training courses and examinations to the end of May 2020.

Our first priority to keep everyone safe, including our visitors and staff. We’ll be rescheduling training and examinations when we’re advised by the UK Government it is safe to do so. If you have training exam requirements that are business critical please contact BPCA to discuss further.

BPCA technical and business support is still available to all BPCA members. Members are encouraged to contact our team for support if they need it.

If you’re worried about recording CPD points, take a look at our free webinars and our CPD quizzes, which can be taken online. Alternatively, if you’re on BPCA Registered, you can record unstructured CPD points for activities like reading articles, watching videos, personal research and technical discussions over the phone.

As you will appreciate, the situation is very fluid and these timescales could be extended as further measures are announced. We will, of course, keep you updated regularly.

Insects are often really small. It can be difficult to tell the difference between a grain weevil and a rice weevil close up, without a microscope and a trained eye.

Whether you need to differentiate between different insects as part of your daily work or you have a natural curiosity to learn more about each insect species and the minute nuances between them, you will find this course fascinating.

During the Insect Identification programme, you will learn about:

1. Identifying stored product insects such as beetles and moths
2. Identifying flies
3. Identifying ants
4. Identifying bed bugs
5. Identifying silverfish
6. Identifying booklice
7. Identifying cockroaches
8. Identifying fleas

Upon completion of this course, you will receive a BPCA certificate of completion.
