Overview
This certification tests your knowledge, your ability to think quickly and your experience and knowledge as an all-around Pest Control Technician.
To achieve the Advanced Technician in Pest Management programme:
You will be tested on your knowledge of different types of site you might survey, what to look for when carrying out a risk assessment and how to complete one, your ability to ID a wide range of invertebrates, vertebrates, evidence and equipment and your ability to share with an examiner what you understand in relation to legislation, stewardship, waste and everything else to ensure satisfied customers and safe pest management.
Upon completion of this programme, you will receive a BPCA certificate of completion.

Prerequisites: Level 2 in Pest Management, 16+

To take this qualification you must be a Pest Technician with around 2 year's experience and have passed the RSPH Level 2 in Pest Management.

Assessments
You will have four tests to pass:
1. A case study (25-minutes)
2. A risk assessment (15-minutes)
3. An identification (ID) (25 -minutes
4. An oral exam (up to 1-hour)
Section 1: Case Study
To achieve this Section a candidate must:
Survey a site, select appropriate controls and complete a treatment report by being able to:
• Identify a range of issues relating to vertebrate and invertebrate pests
• Identify health and safety risks on a site
• Decide and describe the most suitable non-chemical control measures for a given infestation
• Decide and describe the most suitable chemical control measures for a given infestation
• Detail any pesticides required, including the formulations, active ingredients and concentration
• Make recommendations, concerning hygiene, housekeeping or proofing.
Section 2: Risk Assessment
To achieve this Section a candidate must:
Produce a detailed risk assessment by being able to:
• Identify risks for a given site
• Indicate who may be affected by these risks
• Provide details of the controls for the identified risks
Section 3: Identification
To achieve this Section a candidate must:
• Identify a set of 50 specimens. The specimens are a combination of invertebrate and vertebrate pests, dropping, equipment and damage.
Section 4: VIVA (oral exam)
To achieve this Section a candidate must:
• Confidently describe to an examiner the rationale behind their answers to the case study and risk assessment
• Respond to questions about pest control activity
• Explain risk hierarchy, waste and health and safety
Exam candidates must achieve 65% to pass each section. If a candidate fails only one section, they can re-take the failed section. If they fail the re-taken section, they have failed the whole exam. Candidates who fail 2 or more sections have failed and must re-take the whole exam.
