What is the British Pest Management Manual?

The manual was prepared in collaboration with the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) and was formerly known as the LGTB or the ADAS manual.

We believe that the British Pest Management Manual is a valuable text for anyone undertaking the RSPH/BPCA Level 2 Award and Level 2 Certificate in Pest Management, and is an ideal resource for the professional pest controller.

Why do I need the BPM Manual?

The level of expertise of pest control technicians has changed over the years, and while the basics such as the recognition of animal signs still need to be learned and developed, there is a requirement to be technically competent in other areas such as:

  • Relevant legislation
  • Pesticide use
  • Resistance to pesticides
  • Health and safety
  • Environmental protection

The responsibility that goes with the use of pesticides is considerable, and the need to protect the environment forms an increasingly important part of the pest technicians' duties.

As well as being an essential tool for the core training of pest control technicians, the manual can also be used effectively for refresher training and by supervisory staff and others for reference purposes on a daily basis. Ideally, the BPM Manual should be utilised as an everyday reference manual, and should not replace undertaking formal qualifications or training courses.
