Assessments

Before taking this exam, you must meet certain criteria (see Prerequisites).

You require experience of multiple sites within the food industry. Your portfolio must include a minimum of 5 typed inspection reports, produced by you, from at least 3 different sites. Your reports should show different types of visit, different types of site and should follow a typical report format eg initial report details - date, location, site type, report type, introduction, observations, findings, recommendations, priorities, conclusions and summary. Any information that might identify a customer should be removed from these reports.

• Hospitals, prisons, universities and similar large public and private sector institution
• Cook-chill catering units
• Large hotels or large food retail outlets

To pass the Certificated Field Biologist exam you need to take a 3.5-hour exam, split into two sections:

1. ID section – 45 Minutes
2. Written exam questions – 2 hour 45 minutes - two scenarios and 15 questions

Prerequisites

To take the exam you must have (or equivalent):

• Level 2 in Pest Management
• Level 2 Award in Health and Safety
• Level 3 Award in Food Safety
• Advanced Technician in Pest Management
• Membership of a recognised CPD scheme
• 2 years practical pest control experience in a range of sites (written declaration from a manager)
• A minimum of 5 Field Biologist style site inspection reports from a range of sites produced by the candidate

You must also be aged 16 or over to take this exam.
